The Marvel piste: five kilometres to find your rhythm

On a longer run, you start to find your rhythm. One turn, then the next. You spend less time watching your ski tips and more time looking ahead. With trees lining the route, this descent has a character all of its own.
Marvel is also a lovely run to share. Ski a few turns together, wait for each other somewhere open and clearly visible, then set off again. There’s no need to make every descent a race.
What level do you need to ski the Marvel piste?

Green is the easiest piste grading, but a five-kilometre run still takes concentration and a little stamina. Before you set off, you should already be able to slow down, turn and stop. Snow conditions and how busy the piste is also make a difference.
If you’re skiing with a child, choose a time when they’re still feeling fresh and focused. If they’re taking lessons, ask their instructor whether they’re ready for this run. Choosing the right piste is often the first step towards a happy memory.
Never skied before?
Start in the beginner area at Les Esserts. Marvel and Marveline are two different pistes: Marveline is part of the progression in the beginner sector, while Marvel is the longer run described here.
How do you get to the Marvel piste from Morillon?
- From Morillon village: take the gondola to Morillon 1100 Les Esserts.
- At Les Esserts: take the Sairon chairlift with a ski pass valid for that lift.
- At the top: find Marvel on the piste map and follow the signs.
- At the bottom: you’ll be back at Morillon Les Esserts. To return to the village, you can take the gondola down during its operating hours, with a valid ticket or pass.
Before heading up, check that Marvel and the Sairon chairlift are open. If you’re returning to the village, check the time of the last gondola down too. A webcam gives you a glimpse of the area, but it doesn’t replace the live lift and piste opening report.

Your first Marvel, at your own pace
Give yourself time to enjoy this run. Stop at the edge of the piste where you can be clearly seen, and leave plenty of room for other skiers. If someone in your group is getting tired, adjust your plans rather than squeezing in “one last run”. Everyone enjoys the day more when the pace feels right.
Would you like an instructor alongside you for your first long run? A lesson is a chance to build confidence in your technique and choose a route that suits the day’s conditions.
