Compagnie La Barde, Jubila

1

Voice tightrope walker Leïla Martial mixes singing, rap, sound effects and unusual sounds in a crazy vocal solo. Combining poetry, humour and virtuosity, she invents a unique world of sound, to be seen with the ears and heard with the eyes.

But what do I hear? A crazy polyphony carried by a single voice, that of a lyrical acrobat with whimsical outbursts, who mixes vocal flights with a cloud of unusual sounds, springing from unlikely instruments - and her own flights of fancy. Leïla Martial follows her own vocal path: sometimes lyrical, sometimes grooving or rapping, sometimes powerful, sometimes crystalline, changing from diva to child in the blink of an eye. A tightrope walker, daring and virtuoso, her voice takes us on a dreamlike journey to the frontiers of childhood and the imagination. Suspended moments, subtly burlesque, genius sound bricolages: a ‘solo for multi-timbral vocalist’ as comicophonic as it is unclassifiable. To be seen with the ears, listened to with the eyes.
